Bangalore Rental Prices: Okay, so someone posted on LinkedIn about how crazy expensive rent has gotten in Bangalore. They said that a normal 2-bedroom apartment in a place called Koramangala now costs around ₹70,000 a month. Get this – that’s almost as much as renting a similar place in the areas outside of super-pricey New York City!
This news has a lot of people who work in Bangalore really worried. Bangalore is supposed to be like the Silicon Valley of India, but it’s starting to cost just as much to rent a home there as it does in one of the most expensive cities on the planet. It’s kind of unbelievable!
Fast Increase in Bangalore Rental Prices
Bangalore’s rent prices are going up faster than ever before. The main reason? Lots of new jobs are being created, and that’s bringing tons of people to the city every year. Even though more and more folks are moving to Bangalore, there aren’t enough new houses and apartments being built.
Just ten years ago, Bangalore was known for being a place where you could live without spending too much. But now, because so many people want to live here and there aren’t enough homes available, landlords can charge pretty much whatever they want.
Experts who study the housing market say that one of the big problems is that not enough new buildings are going up in many parts of Bangalore. This shortage of new homes is a major reason why rent prices are hitting record highs.
It’s interesting to see that the rent situation isn’t the same everywhere in Bangalore. Fancy areas like Koramangala are seeing really big jumps in how much it costs to rent.
On the other hand, places in North Bangalore, like Hebbal, Hennur, and Thanisandra, are also seeing rent go up, but by around 20-25%. This is likely because they’re close to big new roads, transportation, and the airport.
Then you have areas like Whitefield and Sarjapur Road, where rents are also increasing quickly. This seems to be because a lot of people want to live in modern, new apartments and houses in those parts of the city.
So, while rent is going up across Bangalore, it’s happening at different speeds in different neighborhoods, depending on how desirable the area is and what’s being built there.
Renters Facing Limited Options

Because there aren’t many places available to rent, landlords can ask for more money. When it’s this hard to find a place, the people who own the properties have all the power. Renters don’t have many other options and often have to pay the high prices being asked.
One person living there was annoyed and said, “You have to pay rent like you’re living in New York, but getting around the city is a nightmare – even going just 10 kilometers can take a whole hour!” Bangalore already has terrible traffic, road closures, and other problems, which just makes people even more frustrated and shows how badly the city needs better roads and other improvements.
Bangalore’s roads and public transport aren’t good enough for the huge number of people now living here. This means really bad traffic, long travel times, and a public transport system that isn’t great, making life less enjoyable. Even though people are paying really high rents, they still have to deal with the everyday hassle of trying to get around on packed roads.
Are Things Getting Too Pricey in Bangalore?
Because rent has gone up so much, many people living in Bangalore are having to think hard about where they can afford to live. Bangalore used to be a place where people moved to because it was affordable and had good job opportunities. But now, it’s become one of the most expensive big cities in India.
