The OnePlus 13 Review, device is a completely redesigned smartphone with fresh features and improvements. But does being new automatically make it better?
OnePlus ended 2024 with some exciting announcements. It wasn’t the best year for the BBK-owned brand in India, especially after many mobile retailers rejected them. To fix this, the company made some changes within its team and tried to end the year positively. One of its big moves was to address the ongoing problem of green line issues on its phone displays.
This issue has troubled OnePlus phones for years. The company announced that it has not only fixed the problem in its upcoming devices but will also offer a lifetime replacement warranty for all its smartphone models. Additionally, OnePlus introduced “Project Starlight,” an initiative to improve its customer service experience in India.
With its past issues resolved, OnePlus has introduced the all-new OnePlus 13 review, the successor to the OnePlus 12, which we found to be an excellent all-rounder in our review. The OnePlus 13 comes with a fresh design, smart AI features, powerful performance, and long-lasting battery life. Like the Oppo Find X8 Pro, which added a Quick Button and magnetic cases, OnePlus has chosen to include magnetic wireless charging. This feature is similar to Oppo’s magnetic cases, quietly launched in India last year. After using the phone for several weeks, I can confidently say the OnePlus 13 is one of the brand’s most ambitious smartphones yet.
With its previous issues resolved, OnePlus has introduced the all-new OnePlus 13, the successor to the highly-rated OnePlus 12. OnePlus 13 Review/ Design: Slim and Stylish
- Dimensions: 162.9 x 76.5 x 8.5mm
- Weight: 213g
- Durability: Water and dust resistance with IP68 and IP69 ratings.
I got the OnePlus 13 in the Arctic Dawn color, the simplest of the three options. The Black Eclipse version, available only in the highest storage variant, has a matte black frame and a wood-like texture for a unique look. The Midnight Ocean color stands out the most with its mirror-finish frame and luxurious vegan leather made from microfiber.
OnePlus 13 Design and Durability
The OnePlus 13 looks similar to Oppo’s Find X8 Pro but feels lighter. Its shiny aluminum frame and flat sides make it easier to hold compared to the Oppo phone. Unlike the OnePlus 12, which had rounded edges, the OnePlus 13 has flatter front and back panels with smoothly curved edges that blend nicely with the frame.
This year, the phone’s water and dust protection has been greatly improved and now has an IP69 rating. This means it can withstand strong jets of hot water, like those in a car wash. Additionally, OnePlus offers extra protection plans for an additional cost, allowing you to safely use the phone in freshwater without any worries.
Modular Accessories and Cooling Technology
The modular aspect of the OnePlus 13 begins with its phone cases. OnePlus has released a range of accessories in India, including cases with a built-in magnetic ring to hold new accessories in place. These accessories include a magnetic snap-on charger and a 5,000mAh magnetic power bank.
The OnePlus AIRVOOC 50W Magnetic Charger may look similar to Apple’s MagSafe charger, but it works differently. Unlike other wireless chargers, OnePlus has added a thermoelectric (peltier) chip to keep the charging process cool. This helps prevent battery damage caused by heat, which is common with wireless charging.
The fan and thermoelectric chip work together to cool the charger and keep the magnetic area and contact surfaces cool. However, the cooling effect doesn’t fully reach the phone because the charger’s cooled surface only touches the plastic case, not the phone itself. So, it won’t help cool the phone while gaming. For better cooling, OnePlus offers the Freezing Point Phone Cooler, which clips directly onto the phone’s back and works better for gamers.
