3 National Awards for “AATTAM” Movie, While Best Hindi Film Awards Goes To “GULMOHAR”

South Indian Cinema has left a notable impression by securing major victories at the 70th National Film Awards. The Malayalam film Aattam, directed by debutant Anand Ekarshi, won the award for Best Feature Film. “Three National Awards for Aattam is a tremendous achievement” says director Anand Ekarshi.

Kochi based director Anand Ekarshi, whose malayalam film Aattam won three national awards for best feature film, best screen play and best editing described the accolades as a “huge fortune” that exceeded their expectations and desires. Aattam tells the story of a theatre group whose members face a crisis when the only woman in the group speaks out about sexual harrassment. The awards were announced on friday, August 16.

The movie “Aattam” is loosely inspired by the well known American Courtroom drama & 12 Angry men. After a successful run at various film festivals, Aattam was finally released in theaters across India on January 5, 2024. The movie is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

The Story of 'Aattam' movie:-

The story of Aattam follows a sexual harrassment accusation made by the only woman in a theater group. She claims that a well known star assaulted her. At first her team members support her, but their loyalities start to change when the superstar offers them a chance to perform in Europe for a big fee. As the group begins to take sides, unsetting truths emerge, stories come undone and chaos breaks out as they try to uncover what really happened.

Additionaly, The Manoj Bajpayee-led film “Gulmohar” was honored as the Best Hindi Film, while KGF Chapter-2 took the title of Best Kannada Film. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting made the announcement on August 16. Aanand Ekarshi, whose film Aattam won Best Feature Film at the 70th National  Film Awards, expressed in an interview.
