JioStar is launching a new streaming service called JioHotstar. Combining of JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar into one place. this will be the biggest streaming service in India, with a huge number of users and tons of movies and shows. JioHotstar merge will also have content from big international studios like Disney, NBCUniversal, Warner Bros., Discovery, HBO, and Paramount.
This New streaming service ‘Jiohotstar’ will heavily feature cricket, with streaming rights to big ICC events (including the IPL, WPL, and domestic matches). Fans will also be able to watch other sports like the English Premier League, Wimbledon, Pro Kabaddi League, and ISL on the JioHotstar app.
JioHotstar’s new app lets you watch in super-sharp 4K, offers different camera angles, gives you AI-powered insights, and shows live stats on screen. You can watch some content for free with ads, or pay from ₹149 to get more. If you already use Disney+ Hotstar or JioCinema, your account will move over to JioHotstar.
The Disney+ Hotstar app on phones has already changed to JioHotstar, with a new logo. Right now, the app looks the same as Disney+ Hotstar, but that might change later. If you go to the Hotstar website, it tells you that JioCinema content is now available on JioHotstar.
Jiohotstar Merge
Last August, the Competition Commission of India and the National Company Law Tribunal gave the green light for Disney and Reliance Industries to merge. They then officially created their joint venture in November.
Essentially, Reliance Industries is the majority owner of JioHotstar, holding a 60% stake. They own some of that directly (16%) and the rest (47%) through their Viacom18 business. Disney owns the remaining 37%.
