The DNC (Democrator National Convention) wrapped up with four days of speeches, Tributes and promises as the party united behind Vice President Kamala Harris, who hopes to become the first woman president of the united states.
Day 1: Biden's Farewell
On the first night, Hillary Clinton and president Joe Biden expressed hope that Harris could break the “Glass Ceiling” and become the first female president.
Day 2: Harris supported by the Obamas
Barack Obama strongly supported Harris, while Michelle declared,”Hope is making a comeback.” During the speech, Obama remembered his vice president, saying that history will remember Biden as president and I am proud to call him my friend. Now it’s up to all of us to fight for the America, e believe in”.
Day 3: Motivational speech by Walz's
Third night closed by an energetic speech by Tim Walz. DNC ended with a strong message of unity, focusing on the importance of defeating Trump and making history with Harris as their candidates.
Day 4: Democratic nomination accepts by Kamala Harris
Vice President Kamala Harris officially accepted the Democratic Nomination for president on the fourth day of the DNC. Harris hit out at her opponent Republican Candidate Donald Trump, calling him a “Unserious Man”. She also underlined her commitment towrds ending the war in Gaza and vowed to stand with Ukraine.
US Vice President Kamala Harris today formally accepted the Democratic Party’s 2024 presidential nomination to fight against her Republican rival Donald Trump. Ms Harris, who is of Indian origin, emerged as the Democratic candidate after the president Joe Biden,81 was forced to quit the race for the white house last month July 2024.
During the speech, Kamala Harris also remembered her “tough and courageous”mother, Shyamala Gopalan. She said” It was mostly my mother who raised us. Before she could finally afford to buy a home, she rented a small apartment in the East Bay. We lived in the flats- a beautiful working-class neighbourhood of five fighters, nurses and construction workers all of whom tended their lawns with pride,” said Ms Harris.
Kamala Harris mother Shyamala Gopalan was a breast cancer specialist who emigrated from Tamil Nadu in 1960 to pursue a doctorate in endocrinology at the University Of Calfornia Berkeley. Taking center stage on the last day of the Democratic Party Convention, she said her mother was only 19 when crossed the world alone, travelling from India to Calfornia with an “Unshakeable dream to be the scientist who would cure breast cancer”.
She also spoke about her Jamaican father, Donald Jasper Harris and said he always taught her to be “Fearless”. When she finished school, she was supported to return home to a traditional arranged marriage, but as fate would have it, she met my father, Donald Harris, a student from Jamaica. They fell in love and got married and that act of self determination made my sister, Maya and me.” Ms Harris said in her speech.
She has tightened the race against Republican Donald Trump. If Harris wins on Nov 5, she will be the first black, south asian woman elected president. Harris has raised a record-breaking $ 500 million in a month to and has narrowed the gap or taken the lead against Trump in many opinion polls of battle ground states.
Some Hindus in the US have come together to create “Hindus for Kamala Harris”. A support group for the Democratic President Nominee, saying she would be good for India, America and the world.
Mr. Biden, who gave an emotional farewell speech to the convention on Monday, said he and first lady Jill Biden had called Ms Harris to wish her luck. “I am proud to watch my partner Kamala Harris accept our nomination for president. She will be an outstanding president became she is fighting for our future”, he said on X.
