9/11: 23 Years Later, These 9/11 Incident Still Shock The World

9/11 Attack:

The Terrible attacks on September 11,2001 caused the deaths of 2,977 innocent people. This left countless families heart broken and many others deeply wounded.

On September 11,2001, a terrorist group called Al-Qaeda hijacked four airplanes. They flew two of the planes into the Turn Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. Another plane was flown into the Pentagon, which is the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense. The fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania after passengers fought back against the hijackers. Nearly 3,000 people were killed in these attacks, making them the deadliest terrorist attacks ever to happen in the United States.

The September 11th attacks created a lasting legacy of grief and trauma. Each year, the 9/11 Memorial becomes a place of solace and remembrance for those who lost loved ones in the attacks. Each year, families of victims gather at Ground Zero to read the names of their loved ones. The 23rd anniversary is expected to draw hundreds of mourners. The tradition has become a symbol of remembrance, not only at the side of the attacks but also in communities across the nation.

The Pentagon’s 9/11 Ceremony honors the 184 lives lost with a solemn reading of their names by military members or officials. The Flight 93 National Memorial honors the 40 lives lost with a poignant ceremony where families read the names of their loved ones.

The 9/11 attacks sparked a global response, with the US leading the ‘Global War on Terrorism,’which included military operations in Afganistan and Iraq. The legacy of 9/11 continues to be honored through diverse remembrance traditions, including wreath-laying ceremonies, flag displays, marches and even police radio messages.

US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday will observe the 23rd anniversary of the September 11 attacks on the US with visits to each of the three sites where hijacked planes crashed in 2001.
